$2B or not $2B...crowdfunding's milestone

things are accelerating

I’ve been blown away by the response to my TriAgenics article last week! I’ve decided to put my money where my mouth is and invest myself - TriAgenics now makes up ~8% of my startup portfolio.

This week, there’s a lot going on in the crowdfunding space. And we’re going to talk about it:

  • 🏌️ Hit the Links: Top headlines from the crowdfunding space

  • 📢 Gather the Squad: Wefunder’s new co-invest feature

  • 💸 2B or not to be: Major milestone for crowdfunding investment

HIT THE LINKS

The best links from around the web:

✏️ The top 100 universities for startup founders (link)

📈 The IPO market has doubled activity in the first half of 2023 (link)

🥕 Sequoia turns $8M → $1B (125x) with its early Instacart investment (link)

💰 StartEngine Private launching to provide access to top VC-backed startups (accredited investors only) (link)

✍️ Wefunder’s case study on Substack shows that 50% of investors were writers on the platform (link)

GATHER THE SQUAD

Wefunder’s latest feature has flown under the radar…

It’s their co-invest tool. Basically, you can follow any Wefunder member and see what investments they’ve made.

There’s also a ‘co-invest’ option that lets you join an investment they’re making. If you really trust someone, you can take the decision-making out of it and just tack onto their investments.

Or, you can follow them and get inspiration/deal flow by seeing what they’re betting on.

It’s a cool feature, and I think there’s tons of room to grow it larger. If you want to follow my profile and see my new investments, you can do so below!

2B OR NOT TO BE

Crowdfunding surges past $2B in investments.

It took the industry 5 years to reach $1B in investment

It took it just 2 years to reach $2B.

Crowdfunding has ramped up significantly from humble beginnings, thanks to the hard work of hundreds of individuals in the space.

To date, over 6,400 companies have funded their operations from crowdfunding, positively impacting jobs, innovation, and the economy.

And from what I see, the momentum is going to continue.

More favorable legislation, a better image, greater awareness, and some success stories are all powering the lurch towards $3B.

Onwards!

Please note that CROWDSCALE is not recommending investment into any of the above startups. Investing in startups is risky and you should only invest that which you are able to lose.
